Build Me A World

On Memorial Day of last year, I started a new Dungeons & Dragons campaign, the WAGER campaign.1 I lead a band of newbie players (and a couple of experienced ones) to the world of Treskri. Now you may ask what or where is Treskri? Treskri is a world created in my imagination that I intend on sharing with my friends and, for today, with you. World building is one of my favorite creative endeavors. I can imagine a world as close or as different from Earth as I want with no restrictions.

A Beginner's Guide to Creating Your First Character (From Someone Who Just Created His First Character):

The allotted time for "character creation" prior to my first Dungeons & Dragons expedition was one hour. One o'clock to two o'clock.

When I first arrived early at about 12:50, I was presented immediately with the options for various races. Ten mythical empires were described to me, and I was asked which of those ten empires I would like to spend the next few months pretending to be a member of. My natural response: "What?"

Today I’m Discovering Dungeons and Dragons (Part 1)

Monday afternoon I created Rowlfwicke Banes, the Weretouched. He is, I learned that same day, a Shifter of the Ranger class with an affinity for his Composite Longbow. He’s a creature of the outdoors – a tree climber, good swimmer, great dexterity, but not very bright and horrible around other people (… or orcs, or elves, or, like, lizardfolk, or anything really). When he shifts (when he transforms from sort of human-like to really hairy and mean) he becomes an expert tracker with the best sense of smell in his party.
